Acupuncture treatment consists of inserting sterile fine needles into specific therapeutic points in the body. This treatment is an option that can be considered after your Integrative Holistic Medical evaluation has been completed. The treatment aims to influence the flow of the qi (life force energy) in the circulation of the energetic network to support healing. Medical acupuncture is the most integrated acupuncture practiced by physicians to complement conventional medicine. Medical acupuncture respects conventional medicine and embraces the traditional Chinese medicine concepts of energy circulation through meridian channels and their impact in health. Medical acupuncture has been successfully incorporated into medical practice in Western countries, mostly in Europe and lately in America.
Dr Fuentes-Valdes is trained on the Integrated Structural Acupuncture system, Kiiko Matsumoto’s style of acupuncture and David Euler’s link between Chinese acupuncture classics and theories of Western Medicine, which allows the practitioner to comfortably emerge Eastern and Western terminology. The main characteristic of this style of acupuncture is the very close relationship between the various medical theories and the human body. Such a relationship is obtained by palpation and verification of acupuncture points, ensuring the optimal diagnosis and treatment. Therapeutic points are verified to demonstrate their immediate effect on the patient symptoms and exam findings. In this way both practitioner and patient actively participate in the healing process.
The treatment is divided into sections, first addressing your constitutional, your core systems to then support the specific problem with longstanding results.
For the acupuncture treatment, you would lay down comfortably on the massage table with the intention of relaxation. Dr. Fuentes-Valdes will evaluate your constitution points by palpating them, in your belly, legs and arms, chest and face. She will locate the disturbed points and correct them with the appropriate therapeutic points applying needles to them. The needles are sterile stainless steel, disposable and very thin, they are applied on your skin in a superficial manner, they should not hurt and if they do, they are repositioned. Within minutes you will feel relaxed. After the necessary needles are placed, you will rest few minutes while the doctor works on your plan and then the needles are taken out and your back is treated in a similar fashion.
